With supportive voices on both sides of the aisle, former Lieutenant Government Don Beyer today called on Republican House Leader Eric Cantor to bring a minimum wage bill to the floor. “As of today, both Tim Pawlenty and Rick Santorum stated their support for a minimum wage hike,” Beyer said of the Republican former governors. “I challenge Eric Cantor and Republicans in Congress to follow their lead. Let’s have a full vote on an increase in the minimum wage, rather than continue to play partisan politics with workers’ livelihoods.”
Please join Don, Megan and Team Beyer for a happy hour with special guests Melody Barnes, Jim Messina, Pete Rouse and Julianna Smoot on Thursday, May 22nd, 5:30 to 7:30 pm at Café Asia, 1550 Wilson Boulevard, Arlington, VA 22209.
Applauding Attorney General Mark Herring’s decision today to allow immigrants who came to the U.S. as children to qualify for in-state tuition, congressional candidate and former Lieutenant Governor Don Beyer claimed the move was “just commonsense fairness.” The opinion issued by Herring and announced this morning cleared the way for Deferred Action Childhood Arrivals (DACA) to qualify for in-state tuition. The move will enhance access to higher education by making Virginia universities, colleges, and community colleges far more affordable for undocumented immigrant students.
