March 17, 2014 (Fairfax, Virginia)  – Don Beyer easily won the annual St. Patrick’s Day straw poll tonight, garnering 35 percent of the vote in a 12-way competition.  The vote tally of 127 for the former Lieutenant Governor was nearly three times the total of the closest runner-up.

In his remarks to the emerald-clad crowd at Rep. Gerry Connolly’s annual event, Beyer touched on the progressive policies that are driving his campaign:  gun control, reproductive rights, fighting climate change and job creation.

“With such fine progressive Democrats running I am humbled by this show of support from so many of my Democratic friends,” Beyer said.  “Of course, the only vote that matters is the one on June 10th.”
